Male Cosmetic Procedures, Reaching 1.1 Million Last Year!

Even in the midst of a slow economy, the male plastic surgery industry continues to expand.  As baby boomers and those generations right behind them continue to age, social conventions over male cosmetic procedures are rapidly changing.  Whether it is concern over appearing young in the workplace or just the age old desire to look good, men are increasingly opting for appearance enhancing procedures.
Statistics bear this out. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports that in 2010, men underwent 1.1 million procedures.  That overall number was up 2% over 2009.  Within that, facelifts saw significant growth, up 14%, and liposuctions grew 7%.  Also, among the top ten procedures, the majority are surgical, which bucks the previous trend of non-invasive procedures being paramount.  And surgeons reporting into the survey are finding that more and more “regular” people (as opposed to celebrities and the wealthy) are opting for cosmetic enhancements. William K. Boss MD PA FACS, explains this rapidly growing trend quoting a recent ASPS report that states: “The typical male cosmetic surgery patient is an average guy who wants to look as good as he feels. Most of these patients are ‘men's men,' the kind of guy you might not think would have plastic surgery." Dr. Boss would agree with this patient profile, as reflected by the number of procedures he performs at his practice; The New Jersey Cosmetic Surgery Center in Hackensack, NJ.,
With the increasing acceptance of male plastic surgery, the industry is expected to grow, and that growth should accelerate as the economy continues to recover.  It seems that the stigma once attached to such actions is rapidly fading away.  The increasing acceptance of terms like “metrosexual” by men and the success of television shows like “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” shows us  something that women have known all along but that men have been afraid to admit: guys are just as concerned about how they look as gals.
Men prefer procedures that produce rapid recuperation and refresh their looks rather than getting too extensive. Their favorite procedures in my practice are liposuction of abdomen, flanks and back,  They also like to improve their necks and eyelids

You longer have to determine the size of your breast implants prior to surgery, when Adjustable Implants are now an option.

For many women, the post-operative size, shape, or contour of their breasts may not fit their self-image or their expectation. The number one complaint from patients who have had breast augmentation surgery is that they wish their size was a little larger.
According to Dr. William K. Boss, Founder of the NJ Cosmetic Surgery Center, post operative adjustable implants offer the breast augmentation patient numerous benefits including:
•Less anxiety  to determine size and shape of implant prior to the breast augmentation procedure
•Greater control over size of implants and results of surgery
•Enhanced ability to achieve symmetry
•Less risk of implant wrinkling
The surgical procedure used for post operative adjustable implants is similar to other breast augmentation techniques. The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under a general anesthetic or local anesthesia plus a sedative. Post operative adjustable implants may be placed under the breast tissue or muscle and inserted through an incision in the breast fold, areola or armpit.
What makes this procedure different from other breast augmentation techniques is that the surgeon will also implant a tube and an injection dome under the skin. This will allow the doctor to add or remove saline through a syringe after surgery to increase or decrease breast volume or to alter breast shape. Adjusting is done at a routine office visit and involves a tiny needle that’s smaller than what you use for a blood test.
Cosmetic breast surgery with adjustable breast implants have a remarkably simple design that enables Dr. Boss to elevate and reshape the breast to provide a youthful, natural appearance and be able to make postoperative adjustments for up to 6 months after your surgery.

“Will I ever get my pre-pregnancy body? Sound familiar?

Dr. William K. Boss, Founder of the New Jersey Cosmetic Surgery Center explains how a “mommy makeover” may be just what you are looking for…

Having a new baby is a wonderful experience and most women enjoy being pregnant and are happy to become mothers, but for some, the physical changes can take away some of the joy. If you feel this way, you're not alone. Fortunately, you don't simply have to "learn to love" your post-partum figure as women of earlier generations were told. Today, there are exciting options in plastic surgery to help you regain your pre-pregnancy figure - or even improve on it!
Your body undergoes significant changes during and after pregnancy. With proper nutrition, exercise and the help of time your body will return to a more normal state, probably within a year. However, even getting down to your pre-pregnancy weight may not yield the results you were hoping for. Many Moms complain about stretch marks, excess skin, stubborn fat in certain trouble spots and sagging breasts. But, there are ways to counteract these changes with cosmetic surgery, many of which can be done on an outpatient basis so you can return home and be back with your family that same day!
You give so much of yourself and your resources to your children, and never think twice about it, but sometimes, in the midst of motherhood your own well being gets a little lost. Why not take great care of yourself and raise your children too? Becoming a mother doesn’t mean you can’t look as good as or better than before your pregnancy and that is the philosophy behind Dr. Boss’s Body after Baby program.
