LAVIV™, a patented technique developed by Dr. Boss in 1995 is now FDA approved and available for treatment of nasolabial folds (laugh lines). This revolutionary treatment utilizes the patient’s own fibroblasts, which are the cells in your body that make collagen. Dr. Boss injects these cells into the treatment area to repair and rejuvenate the skin. Fibrocell is engaged in trials for acne scars and fine lines.
LAVIV™ is the first and only FDA-approved personalized cell therapy created to improve prominent smile lines. The product is so effective that Allure Magazine selected it as one of Allure’s Best of Beauty Products for 2011. LAVIV™ is made up of special cells called fibroblasts, which are isolated and grown from your own skin cells. It’s composed of at least 98% pure fibroblasts placed in a mixture of water, sugars, vitamins, amino acids and salts which contains no fillers. LAVIV™ is usually administered in three separate treatments which are spaced at intervals of 3-6 weeks. Clinical trial results were submitted to the FDA after 6 months, so the approval is for a six month duration, however, Dr. Boss and many of his colleagues have had early trial patients that have maintained results lasting 4-15 years.
It’s a simple procedure and similar to other filler treatments, it’s injected directly into the smile lines using a small needle and is done in the office. LAVIV™ also poses an interesting possibility of being combined with laser procedure since lasers target and stimulate the same cells (fibrocells) that are the LAVIV™ product.
